On June 25, Forschungszentrum Jülich unveiled Europe’s fastest supercomputer, JUPITER, for the first time at the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the Federal Government in Berlin. This exascale system propels research into a new era – with immense computing power for AI, simulations, and big data. But how do you present such a gigantic data center? Together with the team from Jülich, we found a solution and developed CUPITER.
CUPITER is the smaller, interactive, and informative version of JUPITER – a glowing science communicator that showcases what the Jülich exascale computer will make possible in the future and quite impressive.
The exhibit offers two perspectives:
A grand and impressive gesture – the artistic interpretation of the exascale computer: the Activation Side. Bioeconomy, society, or energy? Visitors choose the research fields they want to power with JUPITER’s AI superpower. Based on this selection, an AI generates a poetic prompt, which is then translated live into an immersive audio-visual experience. A future to dive into – ever-changing, open to interpretation and dialogue. The special aspect is the moment itself, being part of it live, and its transience – each image and text appears only once and will never be recreated in the same way.
But we’ve also created a way to dive deep into the research center’s content: the Information Side. Faster cancer research, high-precision climate and weather models, or new materials for solar cells – here you’ll find clear facts about how JUPITER’s AI superpower is used in research and what insights it will enable in the future.
Our exhibit CUPITER shows what happens when human creativity meets artificial intelligence – and how the JUPITER supercomputer can help answer the big questions of our time.
Prominent guests such as NRW Minister-President Hendrik Wüst, Research Minister Dorothee Bär, NRW Science Minister Ina Brandes, and Head of the Federal Chancellery Thorsten Frei already had the chance to experience JUPITER before it embarks on its tour.
CUPITER will now be on display at Forschungszentrum Jülich and other events. We look forward to many enlightening and poetic moments in the future!
