The current research project by Archimedes

Collaborative research for the digital lab

Rapid technological progress creates countless opportunities for teaching and research. The research project ELIXIER approaches these developments since May 2016. Together with the Bauhaus Universität Weimar, the Freie Universität Berlin, the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology as well as the companies LD Didactic and Walk Enginnerig, Archimedes works on the digitisation of laboratory environments. The main goal of the project is to develop a so-called “Seamless Smart Lab” for chemistry, neurobiology and electric mobility. By means of “Smart Objects”, sensors, tangible surfaces and augmented reality components, laboratories shall be transformed to a hybrid of real and virtual learning environments, opening up new approaches to research and teaching.

To this end Archimedes will be constructing an exhibit, which depicts the functioning of electric vehicles and allows the users – students or apprentices – to take action themselves and learn interactively. The capabilities are not restricted to the educational sectors, also museums or companies may use the demonstrator to illustrate the complex technical processes of electric mobility.

ELIXIER will run until October 2018 and is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. For more information click here .
