We’ve made the Futurium mobile. For over a year now, the museum’s interactive trailer has been touring Germany and has already visited 38 schools, with another 32 scheduled until 2026. We had the opportunity to co-creatively develop and implement the Mobile Futurium together with the museum. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
By May 2025, more than 20,000 students will have been reached through the tour, with over 830 workshops on future-related topics conducted. The Mobile Futurium uses playful and creative approaches to explore how cohesion, opinion-forming, and tolerance as well as how sustainable and livable futures can work.
Participation Instead of Passive Watching
Future education thrives on active involvement and that’s exactly what the Mobile Futurium enables. Here, students are at the center: they are not lectured at, but actively take part. They make decisions, create content, and leave their mark.
The Setup: Clicks, Flaps, and Aha Moments!
The mobile unit is designed to visually echo the Futurium in Berlin but with a few surprises. Three interactive modules are built into the trailer and travel with it across the country.
The Demowotchi: The soul of the Mobile Futurium. This digital mascot needs attention or it’ll get noisy! Inspired by the Tamagotchi (Tamago: egg, Watchi: from “watch”), the Demowotchi symbolizes how democracy and social life need care, feeding, and protection. And it’s a lot of fun! Through humorous voting games in the schoolyard, it encourages opinion diversity and tolerance.
Make a Statement: Students create and post their own messages on a participation wall. What do you stand for? What’s your school’s key message? These statements travel with the mobile to the next school and often spark new conversations there.
The Wheel of Fortune: At this interactive wheel, students spin to receive small tasks that promote class cohesion, empathy, or school engagement. And sometimes, it simply delivers a good dose of empowerment and praise.
All activities take place outside in the schoolyard. Open, accessible, and right in the middle of everyday school life. Seating areas for breaks and discussions, along with easy accessible workshop materials, ensure that everyone can take part.
Sustainably on the Road
The content addresses major issues of our time — democracy and sustainability. And the mobile practices what it preaches: it’s pulled by a fully electric vehicle — climate-friendly and quiet. The trailer is made from recyclable materials and built for long-term use. Thanks to solar panels and a wind turbine, it generates electricity.
