AI, What’s Up?

Traveling Exhibition on Artificial Intelligence

Can it become too powerful? Will it replace us? Or will it simply make our lives better? Hardly any technology is currently debated as controversially as Artificial Intelligence. The traveling exhibition AI, What’s Up? provides a space for informative facts and personal questions on the subject. In collaboration with Universum Bremen, we have designed 550 square meters of interactive exhibition where humans and AI encounter each other in various ways. We are responsible for the entire scenography, design, graphics, and software.

From Teamwork to Deception
More than 50 interactive stations invite visitors to explore the current state of AI. Step into a self-driving car, chat with the robot Felix, or compete against AI in the game Four wins. Build animals out of LEGO bricks—will the AI recognize them? Create a masterpiece in the style of Impressionism with just a few brushstrokes? No problem, thanks to AI. Be aware of Deepfakes—visitors can experience firsthand how easily their identity can be hijacked.

Cool Tech, Soft Walls
A surprising scenography combines soft, tangible elements that contrast with the technical theme. Textile surfaces symbolize the dense neural networks spun by Artificial Intelligence, serving as partitions or projection screens. Black frame profiles shape the five exhibition areas, representing the elements of circle and line (0 and 1), reflecting the binary foundation of the digital world. Each section contains a cluster of exhibits, integrating both analog and digital applications.

Creepy? Fascinating? Both?
The exhibition aims to encourage public discourse on AI. Visitors can playfully explore terms like deep learning and neural networks while also engaging in ethical discussions: What’s our responsibility dealing with AI? Can a machine make moral decisions? How do we shape a future where humans and AI coexist? A unifying interactive element of the exhibition is a voting tool, where visitors can record their positions on punch cards. These cards are displayed or taken home as a souvenir, gradually creating a collective portrait of public perception and expectations regarding this technology.

With “AI, What’s Up?”, we have created an interactive traveling exhibition that makes complex technologies tangible and invites people to actively engage with the opportunities and challenges of AI. From June 2024 to April 2025, the exhibition will be on display at Universum Bremen. It will then travel to the Science Center AHHAA in Tartu and the Musée de l’Armée in Paris.
